Sold for A$5,600
E. Smith / Parramatta. No potters stamp. (New South Wales). Ginger Beer. Cork Stoppered. Salt glaze. Impressed. Convict. 10 oz. 185 mm. 1840s
Very Good. (7.3). Some rust to inner lip amongst some crude making fold type marks. 7 x 5 mm flake to outer rear lip. 9 x 8 mm flake to rear base edge. Several flakes under heel and slightly larger chips, though nothing too deep. The largest flake under the heel is about 21 x 9 mm, this is to the right rear. Really little potters blowout to upper rear. Some glaze wear around the body. Dirty appearance, could do with a good clean. The impression is pretty good, some dirt amongst this as well. Great example of a superb rarity! We have only ever sold one complete example of the sought after E. Smith bottles before back in Auction 39, but it was the "standard" variety without the town name on it. This one with Parramatta also listed on it is exceedingly rare, I can't recall one ever being sold? Estimate: $3000-4000
