Johnson & Owen / Adelaide. No potters stamp. (South Australia). Ginger Beer. Cork Stoppered. Dump shape, cork stoppered. Impressed. Salt Glaze. 163 mm. 1860s-1872
Good. (6.6). Glaze wear right around the upper lip, just through the glaze. Outer lip has a 7 x 6 mm potters blowout to left from making. Couple of little nicks to bottom of lip. Glaze wear right around the shoulder. Some rust to left shoulder. Heavy glaze wear around base edge, there are also some flat chips and flakes around the base edge and under the heel. Light glaze wear around the body. Little blowouts and other making marks to the body. Very early bottle and very rare, the first we have seen, needless to say, the first we have sold! This partnership between Louis Johnson and Samuel Owen was dissolved in January 1872 with Samuel Owen carrying on the business under his own name - for which there are several variations of similar looking ginger beer known which are much, much more available. Estimate: $200-300
