Herring & Co / Adelaide / T. Field / Potter / Sydney. (South Australia). Ginger Beer. Cork Stoppered. Dump shape. Cork stoppered. Impressed. Salt Glaze. 10 oz. 163 mm. 1850s
Repaired. (0). Looks like the top has been broken into three or four pieces, in places about half way down the neck. The original pieces have been roughly glued back in and coloured, there could be some fill in places as well, but definitely appears that the main chunks are original. The joins protrude as it is a relatively rough, yet sympathetic repair. Some minor shoulder flakes. A few flakes and the odd small chip around the base edge. Some spots of glaze wear around the body. Generally strong impression, the N of Herring is very light, interestingly we have sold two other examples and they both had the same weak N in place. A decent example of a very rare and sought after piece of early Australian pottery. Estimate: $200-300
