Krownall / Chutney. (Bengal Chutney Co., South Brisbane, Queensland). Miscellaneous. Box End. Wooden Box End. About 575 x 270 mm. 1930s
Very Good. (N/A). From the Nambour Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser, Friday 5th June, 1936: "I am now using over two hundred tons of green papaws per annum, declared Mr. J. G. Lamont, of the Bengal Chutney Coy., when he showed a representative of 'The Chronicle' over his factory in South Brisbane, last week. Mr. Lamont, who specialises in the manufacture of chutney, is the manufacturer of the well-known 'Palms' and 'Krownall' brands. A keen advocate in the use of local products, it is his wish at all times to absorb all the locally-grown fruits possible. He remarked that he could not procure enough green papaws. As this fruit constitutes the principal product of his chutney, Mr. Lamont is keen that North Coast growers should increase their production. It was pointed out that there was room for further expansion in the growing of both papaws and mangoes. Whilst in the factory a quantity of green papaws arrived in sacks, and these were quickly peeled and sliced ready for use. The price of the green fruit ranges from £7 to £8 per ton." This box end has a chip to the top right corner, some splits and some discolouration. Some scratches and knocks as well. Very interesting item from this well known company - not that I had heard of Krownall myself previously. Estimate: $20-30
