Salt Glaze Lion. Signed underneath in illegible cursive script.. Pottery. Australian. Salt Glaze Lion. 235 mm long. Early 1900s
Fair. (0). Little flake to nose. Flake to base edge on one side. 35 x 15 mm repaired chip near back to base edge. The other side is much worse, near the rear there is a 60 x 10 mm chipped area, and then at the front there is a large section missing of about 110 x 25-30 mm. Nibbled ear. Interesting item, a workman's piece from one of the early Australian potteries, which looks good from one side. We sold an almost identical one in Auction 47 - also with a large piece missing, except it was not signed. No idea what the signature says, looks a bit like Mr Cur.... Estimate: $50-75
