(Crown) / Victorian Selters Water / (JM within a Shield) / Ballan. No potters stamp. (Joske & Morton, Melbourne, Victoria). Aerated Water. Selters. Stoneware Skittle. Impressed. Salt Glaze. 10 oz. 200 mm. 1860s
Good. (6.7). The whole lip is a bit chippy and has the glaze worn through. Less but similar marks on the bottom edge of the top. Body of the bottle is in good shape with some scratches and wear and just a fleabite or two. 15 x 8 mm mark to the left and just above most of the badge is a kiln kiss and this just cuts out the left edge of the Crown. Base edge again has chips, one at the front is 7 x 4 mm and to the right of it is one of around 3 x 3 mm. Under the right base edge is an area that is 32 x up to 5 mm looks like a clay pull from making with wear and nibbling around the edge. Definite chip at the back right up from the base of 7 x 7 mm. Under the front left edge is another mark that I think is from making but about 15 x 5 mm. Extremely rare and unusual early Victorian mineral water bottle. Estimate: $1500-3000
