Sold for A$1,700

McLaughlin. No makers mark. (Melbourne, Victoria). Aerated Water. Torpedo. Applied, square type lip. Deep aqua. 10 oz. 215 mm. 1850s

Very Good. (7.5). Some haze throughout, there are some shiny patches amongst the haze as well. Right rear lip has a 4 mm line which goes across the upper lip and then along the inner lip a further 8 mm. This is a making fold that does not go through the full thickness of the glass. Fisheye to outer right lip is a bit discoloured, this is only 2 x 2 mm. Tiny surface sliver to upper front lip. Some scratches and the odd scuff mark, nothing that looks too deep though. Some little fisheyes. Airbubble near the embossing has a small fisheye type mark on its outer edge. A really good example overall. McLaughlin were listed in Melbourne for a short time in the early 1850s, only a few of these have been found, they are a very early, important piece of Melbourne history, this is one of the first embossed bottles used in Melbourne. Estimate: $1000-1500
