Coins: 2 x $2 Australian coins, 1988 and 1989 with HH intitials (Horst Hahne).. Numismatics. Coins. 2 x Australian $2 coins. 20 mm diameter. 1988-1989
Circulated. (N/A). Both coins are circulated with typical usage marks. Note that these have the initials of the engrave on them, being HH for Horst Hahne. This was only utilised in 1988 and 1989. Some ebay sellers and the like are spruiking stories of how this was an error and how rare they are with these initials, with some prices nearing $10,000 for these coins! Apparently meant to be a mistake with the mint recalling these straight away and reissuing without the initials - well that isn't so. These were used in 1988 and 1989, if you have a $2 coin from those dates, it will have HH on it. Interesting for sure, but don't go thinking that these are worth thousands, or even hundreds for that matter. A quick google search of this variety will show many for sale, varying from $2 up to over $15,000! Needless to say, the slightly overoptimistic sellers don't seem to have any bids! We shall be a little less optimistic with ours. Estimate: $5-10
