Spiers & Pond / Purveyors / Melbourne. (Cafe de Paris, Victoria). Spirits. Flask. Pumkin seed flask. Aqua. Applied top (presumably!). 5 oz. 123 mm. 1858 - 1863
Poor. (0). Broken at the neck. What is left is dull and stained. Some scratches and scuffs. Spiers & Pond opened their Royal Cafe de Paris in Melbourne during 1858. The pair made their fortune bringing the English cricket team to Australia in 1861/2 and also catered the first Melbourne cup in 1861. In 1863 they sold the Melbourne business and set up a Railway caterers in the UK creating what became a huge business in the UK and Europe. I don't recall seeing an example of this particular flask before and even without the top is a great piece of early Melbourne history. Estimate: $100-200
