Sold for A$40
Crown / Tooth Paste / Prepared by / The Crown Perfumery Company / (Crown) / Trade Mark / 40, Strand, London. / W, C. Underside has a British Registration Diamond, dating to 14th May, 1872. (United Kingdom). Pot lid. Tooth Paste. Red print on white lid. Round. No base. 76 mm diameter. 1870s
Good. (6.5). Has a small repair to the flange edge at about 7 o'clock, 11 x 5 mm, this encroaches onto the border part of the printed area. Another repair under the flange right near this at 6 o'clock, 17 x 5 mm, not near the print though. Three repairs to the bottom of the flange, 6 x 3 mm but extremely shallow, 5 x 3 mm and again very shallow, then a larger 20 x 3 mm chip that goes through the flange. Lid is crazed, one line from a repair onto the face of the lid is slightly heavier, may be a glaze hairline. Some wear to glaze around the repairs where the repairer has been sanding the fill in the repairs. Small horseshoe type hairline directly under the flange over about 15 mm. A very ornate lid which looks great with the red print. We have only sold one of these way back in Auction 5, that was this very same lid! Estimate: $100-150
