McAlpin's / Malto- / Pepsin / Flour / "There's No Other". Near one end: This is the famous Hygienic Rolling Pin / Made in England. (Abbotsford, Victoria) Household Rolling Pin Hygienic Rolling Pin, wodden handles, white ceramic cylinder with black print. About 472 mm long to end of handles. 1930s
Good. The large McAlpin firm was at 43 Charles Street, Abbotsford, Melbourne, Victoria. Left end has a shallow 8 x 3 mm flake, the outer cylinder part here also has a flake of only about 3 x 3 mm. A few tiny nicks to the right end of the cylinder. Curved 135 mm discoloured hairline below the printed stamp on the cylinder, there is one small thin flake in the middle of this over about 5 mm. Couple of dark spot to the cylinder, these are a little nibbled. Not sure if these are from making or later marks. Some scratches. A bit of crazing throughout which is a little discoloured in places. The right end where the wooden handle goes through the body is chipped and flaked to this inner hole, the handle is subsequently a little loose. An interesting early piece of Victoria history, you rarely see these offered for sale. Grade: 6.7 Estimate: $100 - 150
