Levy Brothers / _._ / London & Melbourne (Victoria) Household Jar Bristol Glaze, tan top stoneware "cheese" jar. Oval impressed stamp at the front shoulder. Extra large size. About Half Gallon. 217 mm. 1860s-1870s
Very Good. Lovely pale colour. Shallow flake on the front lip. Can see a couple of dark star type hairlines on the inside but they don't come through to the outside. At the back base edge is a Y shaped hairline with the main stem of 35 mm and two branches of about 15 and 20 mm. This also extends 95 mm across the base with another 40 mm branch. All of this is very fine and doesn't catch a fingernail when run across it. A little making mark at the top of the stand and similar marks around the body of the jar. Don't recall seeing a Levy Bros jar like this one before. Rare and I would say an early Melbourne piece. Grade: 7.4 Estimate: $100 - 200
