Fortescue's / (Eagle) / Registered / Ointment / Cures Cures / All sores, old wounds, cuts, burns / ulcers, and skin diseases. / Marshall Brothers / 410 George Street / Sydney. (New South Wales) Pot Lid Ointment Black pot lid with overglaze orange print. 68 mm across. 1900s
Good. 10 x 6 mm flake chip to face edge at around 7 o'clock. Outer rim flake at around 10 o'clock is smaller and mostly on outer rim, this is about 7 x 3 mm. Two smallish flakes to bottom of flange. Little flake to outer rim at about 12 o'clock. Some spots of rust stain. The overglaze print has faded and worn in places, but is clear throughout. Being black, the scratches show up across the face. A very rare lid, and quite unique being a black lid with orange print. A couple of these have sold in recent years in repaired status, this original example clearly shows the exact state this lid is in and so you can be assured that you know exactly what you are getting here. A must for any serious pot lid collector. This is from the late Roy Millar collection. Grade: 6.4 Estimate: $300 - 400
