Union Cordial Works / Trade Mark / Regd / (Handshake) / D. Egan / Propr / Bendigo. No base mark. (Victoria) Aerated Water Codd Dobson or Four way type. Aqua. 26 oz. 265 mm. 1890s
Mint. A little inner water type stain that will soak out. One fine fisheye to rear chamber. Tiny surface impact between rear dimples. One or two tiny surface marks. A few very light scratches. Full of bubbles. Surface is quite whittled, a bit of an orange peel effect around the base. Of the many airbubbles, two or three are at the surface, including a very shallow one on the trade mark. I have ever seen anything like this! This was made at a very small glassworks I presume, the lip is just so different to any other codds, the crudeness throughout, this is the best codd I have ever handled! In the last three auctions we have had the 26 ounce Moonee Valley Tonic Appetizer, then the 26 ounce greenish coloured Moonee Valley Horonda, now this one - all from the late Roy Millar collection. I believe there is one other known example of this codd (which is a different variation), this is the first to ever come up for sale, and to find it in this condition, it truly is an amazing item! A once in a lifetime opportunity. Grade: 9.8 Estimate: $15000 - 20000
