C W H in applied seal (C. W. Herwig?). Smooth base. Spirits Gin Dutch case gin shape. Applied pigsnout or flared top. Black. Quart. 242 mm. 1840s-1850s
Excellent. A wonderful and early sealed gin. Wide bodied and very well made with sharp edges. Base is interesting, looks to have been refired and flattened by the glassmaker. Crude and beautifully made top. A lovely drippy and well stamped seal. Has some haze and scratches. Also loads of swirls and bubbles, a few inclusions but no faults around them. Some dirt still inside. Fantastic early gin bottle. Grade: 8.4 Estimate: $300 - 400
