Sold for A$80
L. Meeus / (Key) / Antwerp. Base Mark: Crude refired pontil. Spirits Gin Applied top. Case gin. Dark Olive Green. 20 oz. 220 mm. 1870s
Not sure on the condition. Lip looks broken, but we have been told that this is very roughly made, and pontilled. According to an overseas gin collector, he has several gins like this, it is due to the lip forming tool not being pushed down into the neck properly, when forming the lip. Flakes around this lip break. 25 x 8 mm bruise at base edge which is very hard to see. Inner dirt. Surface bubble or two. Some scratches. Tiny nick or two. Apparently quite a rare bottle. I cannot grade this one due to the prior comments. Apart from the lip, it is in reasonable condition with only the base bruise of concern, and that is difficult to see. (Same bottle that we sold back in Auction 22, Lot 945). Grade: N/A Estimate: $40 - 50
