Frank Craig / Soda / York // Patent Safe Groove / 4 / Sole Makers / Dan Rylands Ld / Barnsley. (Western Australia) Aerated Water Codd Applied top. Blue Lip. Traditional one way pour style codd patent. Hybrid. 13 oz. 248 mm. 1890s
Good. Polished. Really thin scratch type mark to inner lip edge over about half the circumference. Some wear to inner chamber. The right inner chamber has a crazed effect, these really fine spiderweb marks are very tight and very shallow. There is a tiny star fracture that is only on the inner surface next to the front tear drop. Externally inside the tear drops and neck groove are some surface lines, sort of like surface crazing. Upper right neck near the lip has two tiny dints - possibly where something hot has been against it in the rubbish dump? These are small. Possibly oiled internally, some fine grime and very light dullness. Remains of a few fisheyes and impact marks. The surface is generally very smooth and shiny due to the extensive, early polish job that this has had. The front embossing is quite flat and rounded, however this is at least in part in making! The word Soda is the flattest, there are remains of crazing marks on top of the embossing though so it can't have been polished back too far? Etched marks remaining to the inner right. One of the most sought after bottles in the country! This is from the World famous Russ Smith collection from England. Grade: 6 Estimate: $7500 - 10000
