A. A. Billson / Trade / A B / B / Mark / Beechwoorth // Breffit's / Makers / London. Base: 7022. (Beechworth, Victoria) Aerated Water Lamont Applied amber top. Aqua. 10 oz. 228 mm. 1889-1890s
Very Good. Acid dipped. 5 x 4 mm very shallow inner left lip flake. Very small sliver to inner front lip edge. Open bubble is quite shallow next to the second O of Beechwoorth. Small open bubble to front right shoulder. Some pitted marks, fisheyes and scratches scattered around. The acid dipping process is different to polishing in that an even layer of glass is removed throughout, a very thin layer that is. Therefore all marks remain, they are just shined up. Many collectors consider this a better way of polishing as bottle as it retains the natural surface rather than cutting it back. The result here is a shiny bottle that has a really fine orange peel effect, with shiny scratches and pit marks, shiny embossing which is much better than it would be after a tumble polish and still all the original detail throughout. It does have a slightly dull appearance though through the orange peel effect. A good example of a highly sought after bottle with the amber lip. This is from the World famous Russ Smith collection from England. Grade: 7.1 Estimate: $1000 - 1250
