The / Abbot / Receiver. Part of a label on the front left looks like King George V but is missing some around the edges and has a large cross through it. No potters mark but attributed to Bendigo Pottery. Pottery Water Filter Water Filter Shell. With Lid. Majolica. Laid on decoration. 440 mm with lid. 1900s
Fair. But there is a large section of cracks to the upper right and a piece from the top is loose and could pull out so at the time of grading we have sticky tape around it to prevent any damage as we handle it. There are a couple of main cracks of about 200-210 mm coming from a chipped impact mark between the handle and front decoration. Another crack runs through the middle of the right handle and this one joins one of the first crack forming the piece that could pull out. There are some other hairlines and smaller cracks around the rim. Two chips at the back rim of 27 x 12 and 15 x 13 mm. Crazing throughout. Lid is the original and has a badly filled 40 x 15 mm chip on the edge and an unfilled chip of 38 x 13 mm but mostly is in great shape. Nice colours, the blue on the lid is mostly disguised by the brown although you can see more definite blue on the underside of the rim of the lid. A really nice large piece of Majolica. Displays quite well as it is but would be a beauty with a professional repair to stabilise the cracks to the right. Grade: 5.9 Estimate: $300 - 400
