Silver capped smelling salts jar with contents. Medicine Chemist 1. Hexagonal screw top glass stoppered jar with silver cap. 2. Thin tube with lever style cap for careful application of the product. 3. Ornate shape screw top jar with glass stopper and silver cap. 1. 53 mm. 2. About 170 mm long. 3. 56 mm.. 1900s-1920s
1. Very Good. Lug on the glass stopper has broken off, this stopper is stuck in place. Flake to polished rim of jar. Flake to base edge. A few nicks, scratches and the odd scuff mark. The cap has tarnished. This is hall marked. Contents are balls of something crystalline in structure, I presume some form of salt? 2. Very Good. A most unusual and fascinating piece. Very light, pretty much like a light globe. Contents staining inside. Some corrosion to the mount, the lever still works well. Label is pretty good. Even though measurements are in CC, being a medical item I am confident this predates metrification in Australia. 3. Fair. One or two nicks. Looks great, but you can just see a crack on the shoulder when the cap is in place. Take the cap off and this goes up to the lip, with a second one as well. Top of the stopper is chipped off, but the stopper is not stuck in place. Cap is hallmarked, this is tarnished. Not sure what the clear beads are inside this, they don't smell and aren't salt, so not smelling salts like I described earlier. A very interesting selection of items. Grade: N/A Estimate: $30 - 40
