Sharpe Bros. / When / Empty / Return / To / Sydney & New Zealand // Caution / Persons Damaging, Retaining or Trading with / this jar are liable to be prosecuted. Impressed: The Bendigo Pottery / Epsom / Bendigo at front base edge. (New South Wales) Demijohn Sharpe Internal Thread. Tan Top. Black Print. Gallon. 328 mm. 1900s-1910s
Good. Dark crack/hairline down the back of about 270 mm, open in the middle and finer at the ends, becomes a little glaze crazing sort of pattern on the back shoulder. Down the front is a tighter but still darkened hairline/crack of about 190 mm in total with a little side bit of around 20 mm. The base has a couple of crossed curved hairlines going across/around it. Some glaze wear and nibbles on the inner back lip. Just general light wear. Still a decent example of a scarce jar. Pottery stamp is nice and strong at the front centre. The previous one of these we had sold had a different Bendigo stamp (plus a similar one with different back print, made by Bakewell). Grade: 6.3 Estimate: $100 - 150
