Plain bottle with label: "Samson" / (Samson slaying a Lion) / Peterson & Co Pty / Ltd / 348 Flinders St Melbourne. (Victoria) Household Foodstuffs Applied top, spun finish. Aqua. 13 oz. 227 mm. 1910s
Very Good. Still corked with contents of herbs of some sort and original label. I originally thought this was a Paterson, as the bottle is exactly the same shape and size as the Cunliff and Paterson chutney bottles. However, I have only just now realised that it says Peterson on the label. Turns out Peterson & Co are a very early company, in 1866 they acquired Jas F. Mckenzie in Melbourne, they were manufacturers and importers of all kinds of food related items. This bottle has some grime. Great condition otherwise. The label is discoloured, a chunk missing from the top as well. Very interesting indeed, never seen one of these plain bottles before, let alone with the label. Grade: 7.8 Estimate: $30 - 50
