Blue Target Ball marked FBH. (South Australia) Sporting Target Ball Round target ball with ground shear or burst lip. Blue. 65 mm diameter. 1890s
Mint. A rare South Australian target ball, Frederic Boulton Hughes operated a South Australian glassworks. He was born in Kapunda on the 9th January 1868 and died on March 30th, 1944 in Canterbury, New Zealand. Typical little nibbles and flakes around the lip, standard for the type of manufacture. Just a few fine scratches. Quite a light weight piece. The nature of these items means that they were made to be broken, so target balls in general are rare. Australian target balls are very thin on the ground, I cannot recall seeing this South Australian ball offered for public sale. Great see through light blue colour. Amazing piece of glass! Grade: 9.5 Estimate: $1000 - 1250
