Target Ball. Australian made, attributed to Melbourne Glass Works. Deep purple throughout. Cross-hatched pattern with target like pattern to sides. Glassware Target Ball Round target ball with ground shear or burst lip. Deep Purple. 65 mm diameter. 1890s
Excellent. Typical flakes around the sheer lip which is common with this type of manufacture. Some dirt and grime which will clean off. There is a flat spot opposite the opening on this one, the glass is darker and possibly thicker here and there are some odd surface marks around this flat spot. We think this is a manufacturing flaw. Stunning piece and very rare in this colour. We had previously reported that this pattern is found in light amethyst, blue and amber and appears to be uniquely Australian and attributed to the Melbourne Glass Works. Now we have this fourth colour to add to the list! Grade: 8 Estimate: $1000 - 1500
