FOSTER. No potters stamp. (New South Wales) Ginger Beer Convict Impressed salt glaze convict style ginger beer. 10 oz. 184 mm. 1830s-1840s
Very Good. Tiny blowout to upper lip. Front right upper lip has a touched up spot which goes down the shoulder to the right of the R of Foster over the shoulder and down to the base, it then goes across the base a little to the left side where it comes up about 20 mm. This is a touched up hairline or crack. It is a great job, I have seen similar jobs where the whole bottle has been painted, thankfully that is not the case here. They have painted only the thin line where the hairline was and nothing else, so you can tell that it is not an extensive repair by any means, merely the disguising of a crack - and close inspection shows that this could well have been a simple hairline and not a wide crack anyway! A few other fine hairlines to the lower body and under the base. Small chip to right base edge. Some fine spots of wear around base edge. A great example really of a very rare convict ginger beer, you likely won't get another chance to buy one of these for a long time! Grade: 7 Estimate: $4000 - 5000
