Tobacciana Cigar Holder Antique Wooden Cigar Holder with twist top to open 6 panels with three cigars held vertically in each panel. Outer panel is painted with pheasants and flowers. 260 mm. 1880s
Excellent. A superb piece, possibly earlier than I suggested? The knob at the top twists to open the six painted panels which each have a couple of gold plated brackets mounted which hold three cigars, so when full, this would contain 18 cigars. The mechanism still functions, not sure how it works, but it doesn't open all the doors in a co-ordinated fashion any more. The metal brackets have some flaking of the plating and some surface corrosion. Some minor paint flakes externally. The base has two thin pressed metal bands as part of the design which looks to have been gold plated as well, a similar band around the top. Stunning item, with the Pheasants it has a very Asian feel to it, and certainly has a historical and important feel to it. Grade: N/A Estimate: $250 - 350
