Lithgow Barrel. Potters Stamp: 10 / Lithgow. (New South Wales) Pottery Lithgow Bristol glaze. 10 Pounds. 251 mm. 1900s
Very Good. This has a lid, the lid is unglazed on top, but glazed underneath? Very odd! This has heavy rust, a couple of hairlines and a small flake or two. The barrel has several flakes around the circumference of the rim. A couple of small impact type marks to the lid seat. A flake type mark to the brown section on one of the ribs is a blowout from making. There is a Y shaped hairline under the base, this is seen internally as well, but only one leg, it is not a Y inside. Scuffs and scratches which are heaviest to the wide part of the body. Crazing throughout, this is a little dull, giving a crackled effect in places. Discolouration throughout, the contents have caused this stain, must have been grease based as it has a greasy aroma. Some stains. Some glaze misses to be found. A small flake or two to the body. An interesting piece of Lithgow pottery, the Lithgow stamp is a bit light. Grade: 7 Estimate: $100 - 150
