Sold for A$985

Teapot: Early unofficial Australian Coat of Arms on both sides / Advance Australia. Base: W & J A B / Fireproof / 1. (William & John Astbury Bailey, Alloa Pottery) Pottery Teapot Treacle brown Rockingham glaze. Moulded decoration. About 1 Pint. 135 mm. 1880s

Very Good. On one side is a crack that goes from the base up 70 mm into the design. This crack also runs around most of the base edge but is very fine. There has also been glue put in the wider parts of the crack from the inside to make it stable. Lid is not original but fits very nicely. Only minor marks elsewhere to the teapot. Great looking item made for the pre-federation Australian market. Found in St Kilda over 30 years ago! Grade: 7.5 Estimate: $300 - 400
