Notes: The Union Club was in Hobart Town. At the annual dinner of 1841 a newspaper report noted that a new dinner service was used for the first time. "Each article of the dinner service has the colonial emblem of the Kangaroo and Emu painted on it, with the words 'Union Club' in the centre, underneath which is the motto - 'Ships, Colonies, and Commerce.' The then Lieutenant Governor of Van Diemens Land and famed Arctic explorer, Sir John Franklin was in attendance at the dinner. (Source TROVE: The Courier (Hobart, Tas) Friday 23 July 1841. Page 2).
