Made Expressly For / T. W. Tyzack / Melbourne. No potters mark. (Victoria) (James A. Lerk Collection) Pottery Bird Waterer Two pieces. The top is two tone, tan top, off white bottom. Black print. The base is all white. Base is 160 mm across. 1910s

Excellent. An AMAZING piece! Tyzack was at 378 Little Bourke Street, Melbourne. In 1915 he was listed as having 50 years experience as a poultry farmer. Tyzack was a prominent judge at agricultural shows across the country including the Royal Melbourne Show for poultry, and dogs! T. W. Tyzack was the foremost expert on poultry, he even released a book entitled, "Diseases of Poultry". We have never seen one of these bird waterers before. The base has a flat dish with a protruding part in the middle where the upper bowl would sit. This protrudes further up the upper part than the groove, thereby stopping water from automatically overflowing over the dish edge. Water in the upper part would keep the level constant until it ran out. This base has some crazing and discolouration, but no damage at all. The top part also has heavy, dark crazing throughout. A discoloured section or two. Some scratches and minor marks. Some minor wear to the bottom rim. A great piece for the pottery collector, this unique piece is from the James A. Lerk collection. Grade: 8 Estimate: $400 - 500
