Cherry Tooth Paste / (Branch with Cherries) / Preserves & Cleanses / the teeth, keeping the / white without injuring the enamel. / Prepared by / J. Hamilton / Chemist / Regent St / Sydney. (New South Wales) Pot Lid Tooth Paste Black print on white. Medium. Round. 74 mm diameter. 1880s-1890s
Repaired. Lid has been in two pieces and rejoined. The join line runs almost straight from about 1 o'clock to 8 o'clock. It has joined so well that you could easily mistake the join for a hairline or crazing. On the underside where the join at the top is the flange has had a chip and been filled around 30 mm of the curve and down about 3 mm on the outer side and 6 mm on the inner side. At the other side of the join is a very minor 4 x 3 mm filled mark. The surface of the lid is quite scratched with a couple of deeper ones. Bit of crazing and some discolouration. Nonetheless this is a pretty strong example of a very rare Sydney pot lid. (Lid No 140, Page 154 "Collecting Australian Pot Lids", Keil). Grade: 0 Estimate: $300 - 400
