F. G. Beard / Ginger Beer / Manufacturer / Bendigo // Vitreous Stone Bottles / Warranted not to absorb, / J. Bourne & Son, / Patentees. / Denby & Codnor Park Potteries / Near Derby. (Victoria) (James A. Lerk Collection) Ginger Beer Impressed Salt glaze. Impressed. 10 oz. 162 mm. 1850s

Excellent. Tiny spot of wear to shoulder. Some fine scratches. Dark surface type scratch around upper body which may clean off. Some discoloured patches may well be from making. A few scratches to the body and some fine scuff marks. One or two tiny glaze nicks. The impression is quite strong on this one. Frederick G. Beard was listed as a ginger beer, soda water and lemonade manufacturer in Bendigo at the corner of Arnold Street and Lower Bridge Street in the 1859 directories. This must have been short lived, as these bottles are extremely rare. The only other good one previously known was in the Roycroft collection many years ago, this unfortunately succumbed to a house fire. The few other examples known are all repaired. This is the only good one now known to collectors, and it is a great example. This is the pride and joy of the James A. Lerk collection, so has great provenance as well. Don't miss this opportunity, it is a once in a lifetime occurrence. Grade: 8.2 Estimate: $4000 - 5000
