E. Fowler (very faint part of the top of the Figure 8 or Bow tie is visible below this - 6th of 7 Fowler stamps recorded by Hardy & Cross in their convict period bottle list). (Sydney, New South Wales) Ginger Beer Impressed Shouldered. Impressed. Grey & Tan. 10 oz. 180 mm. 1840s
Very Good. The lip has a small 7 x 3 mm chip at the inner front. A couple of other glaze flakes around the lip. Some general light wear and a couple of kiln marks to the lower body. The stamp has been the Figure 8 stamp but given the shape of the shoulder the potter must have deliberately struck it to avoid the bow tie and Sydney being impressed. A really nice example of a convict era stoneware ginger beer. Grade: 7.9 Estimate: $800 - 1100
