Bruce & Sons / B B / Bendigo. Potters stamp: Bendigo Pottery Co Ltd / Epsom / Bendigo. (Victoria) (James A. Lerk Collection) Ginger Beer Impressed All White. Impressed. 13 oz. 210 mm. 1900s
Fair. This is the exact bottle pictured in "Bottles In Australian Collections," by James A. Lerk, 1971 on page 39, bottle number 5. Since that photograph changed this bottle has had a hard life, it has been in the James Lerk residence when a fire destroyed most of his collection. Inner lip is black with smoke stain. Glaze wear to upper lip is also black. Small chip to front upper lip, to the right is a larger 8 x 9 mm chip, then right of this is 7 x 8 mm flake which is part of a horseshoe hairline over 14 x 14 mm. Flakes to lower lip. Couple of small impact chips to front base edge amongst a horseshoe crack over 22 x 18 mm. Heavily stained throughout, even heavier to the rear. Scratches and marks. Some wear in places to the body. There does not appear to be any bubbling to the glaze, so it is possible that this stain may be able to be removed by a professional. A rare bottle. Grade: 5.5 Estimate: $75 - 125
