Black Baby Feeder with Broken Pontil. (James A. Lerk Collection) Early Glass Black Glass Free blown, twisted and flared lip. Flat back with rounded front. 187 mm. 1700s
Very Good. Lovely unusual lip, inner splits from making. Almost looks like it has a pouring lip. No stain obvious until you hold it up to the light where it looks like dark, rusty type of stain. This seem to be in the glass almost, so not sure it will clean off? Some crude swirls in the glass from making. Some scratches and one or two deeper scuffed marks. The pontil is dangerously broken in the base, don't put your finger in it! We have called this a baby feeder only because of the shape of it, but it could have been for any number of purposes. Whatever the case, it is a fantastic piece of very early black glass that you never see. This is from the James A. Lerk collection. Grade: 7.5 Estimate: $300 - 400
