Huge glass demijohn attributed to Murray Breweries, Beechworth. No base mark. (James A. Lerk Collection) Demijohn Glass Applied top. Aqua. 5 Gallon. 507 mm. 1890s
Excellent. From the James A. Lerk collection, he sourced this himself from the Murray Breweries in Beechworth several decades ago! One of two sourced, the other is on offer this auction as well. Has a cork in the top. There is a discoloured bubble under the base. Plenty of grime scattered around, with a good clean this will be a nice, shiny piece. Maybe some scratches, but nothing major as it has never been buried. There is some inner base grime that may clean out, although good luck finding a bottle brush to suit this MONSTER! Very interesting piece of glassware used in a Victorian aerated water factory, maybe had cordial syrup in it? Being so huge, it exceeds Australia Post's capabilities and so you will need to arrange pick up of this beast! Grade: 8.6 Estimate: $50 - 75
