Very Large Unglazed Chinese Wide Neck Container. (James A. Lerk Collection) Chinese Very Large Unglazed Chinese Wide Neck Container. 303 mm. 1860s
Good. One of the oddest pieces I have seen, this is only glazed around the lip. James Lerk sourced this from a Chinese family in Bendigo many years ago who were still using it! Handed down over generations, the original spout had broken off, so they had plugged it with some hard substance - therefore this is only graded as good, theoretically could be worse! From this rudimentary repair is a crack over about 170 mm or so. Some flakes around the lip and base edge, but with the crude making marks throughout it is hard to tell. Some flakes to the body as well, not sure if these are damage or making marks. This is a fabulous piece, one of two sizes sourced by James from the same family. Grade: 6 Estimate: $100 - 150
