Pioneer Works / Campbell St / Sydney // Registered / (PAW within a Shield) / Trade Mark. Around heel: J. Ross // Bottle Maker. No base mark. (New South Wales) Aerated Water Patent Applied top. Aqua. 7 oz. 173 mm. 1880s
Excellent. Listed in David Jones "Thirsty Work" on page 643, bottle 3 as rarity A. With J. Ross half cut off at the bottom, looks like a mould from another bottle has been utilised. No wire stopper in this one. A little fine dullness in places, this may have been oiled at some stage, but may well have not been necessary. From an old collection, many people used to oil all their bottles whether warranted or not. A little inner dirt. A few scuffs to the shoulder. Some grime and minor dullness in places outside, looks like much of this will clean off. Small spot or two of surface rust. Scratch to base edge is quite short. Minor surface bubble or two. Some minor scuffs and scratches. Great embossing, only one or two spots of minor wear. Great piece of glass all round, and quite rare! Grade: 8.4 Estimate: $300 - 400
