Fabulous early milk glass apothecary jar with reeds and white swans. Label: Syr. Glucosi. No base mark. (South Australia) Medicine Chemist Large milk glass vase shaped jar with cork stopper. Painted decoration and partly applied decoration. 269 mm. 1940s
Near Mint. Quite a stunning piece, one of four from the same chemist in this auction. An early piece of milk glass, the paper label is discoloured with some minor wear to the edge. The original cork still has its cloth around it and fits nicely, there is some rusty and smelly discolouration inside. The lip edge has some nicks from making, the gold leaf design is amongst these, so definitely from making. There are a few scratches and bits of wear to the painted design around the shoulder edge. These are not deep. A few other scratches and minor marks. Historically important chemist item sourced from the chemist shop of Holden & Mellowship, Hindmarsh. This one contained glucose syrup. Grade: 9 Estimate: $200 - 300
