Phone Balmain 198 / Jons Breweries Limited / Non Intoxicant / JONS ALE / Refreshing / Sixpence Deposit On / This Jar / Sydney. Potters Stamp: R. Fowler / Sydney. (New South Wales) Demijohn Printed Two tone, tan top, off white body. Black print. 1 Gallon. 332 mm. 1910s
Excellent. Lip is really good, a little bit if grime and a few tiny pinpricks or maybe glaze misses. Small scratch or two to outer lip. The internal thread stopper has sheered off with only the thread part stuck inside the lip. This could be removed with some careful work. Some grime around shoulder with a few fine scratches. The shoulder edge has some really fine scratches around the circumference, basically very, very fine wear. Dark lump of crud to left body, this does scrape off. Dirty under base and around base edge, there is no damage though, just some making marks. Small surface glaze blowout to rear body. Some glaze misses to body. Some minor discolouration and scratches to be found. Two short thin splits near front left base edge have glaze over them and seem to be from making. A few marks around base edge are scrape type marks, again, these are likely making marks? They are very shallow regardless. From a very short lived company, this is the first that I have seen. Exceptionally rare, there is one pictured in Thirsty Work by David Jones, listed at the highest rarity of A, I would suggest this is only the second one known, certainly the first to come onto the open market in recent memory! This was found in the cellar of a premises in Balmain. Stunning item in superb condition! Grade: 8.7 Estimate: $2000 - 2500
