Lee & Drew / Ballarat. No potters stamp. (Victoria) Demijohn Impressed Handled stoneware demijohn. Spigot hole to front. Bristol Glaze. 3 Gallon. 443 mm. 1891

Very Good. Unusual demijohn, quite tall with the spigot at front. Handle is in place but has a large chipped section down one side over 75 mm and up to around 8 mm in depth. There is a crack across the full width of the handle at the top as well. Side lip has a 16 x 10 mm chip that is up to about 3 mm in depth. There is some minor wear on the inner lip. Jar is a little dirty and there are a few stains and scuffs around the body. Rare Ballarat Demijohn. John Drew had been involved in Lee & Co's brewery business for only a few months when he committed suicide in April 1891. (Same Demijohn as we sold in Auction 9, Lot 283).
