Large Mallet Whisky Jug with Masonic Theme. No potters stamp. Spirits Whisky/Whiskey Dark brown top, lighter brown body. Applied sprigs in a cream colour. 1 Quart. 250 mm. 1890s
Excellent. A big piece, this may well be towards 2 quart in capacity. Groove to upper neck from making. Some grime. On one side at the sharp shoulder edge on the upper flat part there is a groove, split type mark from making. This is open in places, looks like there has been spots of something put in here to fill the gap in places, whether that was done originally or later on is not known, but it is simply there to fill a making mark, it is not after market damage. Tiny nick to upper part of one of the decorations. Scrape to another one. Heavily glazed, some nice glaze drips. Crazed throughout. Some of the decorations include the Masonic Symbol, crown, plough, sun, ladder, moon, stars and a rooster. An impressive piece of pottery. Grade: 8.5 Estimate: $$500.00 - $750.00
