(D. B in a Shield) / Peak Quality / Purveyors / Denham Bros / Sydney / This bottle is the / property of / Denham Bros Sydney. Base Mark: D B W. (New South Wales) Household Cordial Applied top crown seal, spun finish. Aqua. 20 oz. 290 mm. 1910s
Near Mint. Denham Bros were at 359-361 Sussex Street, Sydney and at Leichhardt and Bomaderry. Denham Bros were also in Brisbane and Rockhampton in Queensland. Denham Brothers were involved in butter factories including the three Yangan Cheese Factories, who also had a rare cheese jar. They had a hand in many fields, including livestock sales, bacon factories, cheese factories, and were merchants and a whole lot more. What is this bottle? I am suggesting it may be a cordial due to the fancy design, but do not know for sure. Not sure what the DBW base mark is for, some bottle works likely in the Sydney region. A few short scratches to rear neck, one of the ribs down the rear neck has a small flake. Fisheye to lower body on rear, a little impact nibble to embossing near this. Some streaks in the glass are from making. A few little scratches and one or two fine fisheyes. Superbly detailed design, a wonderful bottle all round which is quite early and not one we have seen before. Grade: 9 Estimate: $$200.00 - $300.00
