The Peoples Filter / (Australian Coat of Arms) / The Australian Water Purifying Co / Melbourne. (Victoria) Household Water Filter Salt Glaze. Applied Slab Seals. 2 Gallon. 330 mm without lid. 1900s
Very Good. Little flake or two to front upper rim. The rear rim has a 25 x 15 mm shallow chip, a few little flakes around from this. The breather hole has lead through it from the inside which has been splayed out. Interestingly, this lead tube goes through and down the inside through the limestone filter that is in place in the middle. The right rim has a fine hairline coming down around 50 mm or so. The applied seals are solid, a little minor wear to small patches. The seal below the trade mark has an impact to upper part with a 20 mm horseshoe crack to it. Over to the right there is a 15 mm shallow chip to the upper part of it as well. Some minor scratches and marks. The lid fits nicely. Slightly different colour, but not a bad match. This does have some fine hairlines. Couple of flakes to the outer edge. Some stains and dirt to be found. A great filter, in this salt glaze and nice condition this is a very rare piece. Grade: 7.5 Estimate: $500 - 750
