I C Hoffman / Strawberry Jam. No potters stamp. Household Jar Two tone stoneware jar. Impressed. About 2 pound. 172 mm. 1850s-1860s
Very Good. Lovely crude stoneware jar. There is crazing / hairlines throughout. Some can be felt with a fingernail. A few little kiln blowouts around the body. Under the base is a softer bit of pottery that at first looks like a filled chip but there is a manufacturing scrape from a glazed section that runs in a continuous line over this softer bit suggesting it is just how it was made. Whatever the case this doesn't go through to the inside of the jar. A really nice early and crude stoneware jam jar. Grade: 7.3 Estimate: $60 - 80
