Leather bound hip flask with silver plated fittings to lip and around lower half. Hall mark: T W / (Bugle) / J D & S / E P B M / 1. Spirits Whisky/Whiskey Early bottle with plated mounting on lip with screw cap. Plated mount on lower half slips off to reveal an early indented base. Upper half is leather bound. 4 oz. 125 mm. 1900s
Excellent. E P B M stands for Electro Plated Britannia Metal. Britannia metal is a pewter-type alloy favoured for its silvery appearance and smooth surface. The composition is approximately 92% tin, 6% antimony, and 2% copper. The leather has split at the shoulder along the stitching and separated. Some scratches to the body where the case slips over. The casing is tarnished as is the cap and mounting. An interesting hip flask, the plated sections being made by James Dixon & Sons of London. Grade: 8.1 Estimate: $30 - 40
