T.S (Thomas Stedman, Sydney, New South Wales) Ginger Beer Convict Crude Convict style Ginger or Spruce Beer. Flat top. 20 oz. 207 mm. 1820s-1830s
Excellent. Although hard to judge with these as they are just so crude! On the front lip is a 23 mm long section that looks like it is likely a kiln kiss. On the back lip is a 3 x 2 mm chip and impact from which runs a 60 mm hairline down to the shoulder. This hairline also runs down the inside to about 65 mm. Both inside and out it is extremely fine. The base edge has a couple of nibbles and marks. There is a kiln mark from another bottle in the back shoulder and a making indent in the side near the base. Superb swirled Grey/Pink/Orange glaze. We are delighted to offer such a significant piece of early Australian Convict era pottery. Extremely rare, particularly in this large size. Grade: 8.4 Estimate: $12000 - 15000
