4 Gallon Bendigo Pottery Banded Bristol Glazed Barrel. No potters stamp. Stoneware Barrel Bristol glazed barrel with ten dark bands. Tap Hole. 4 Gallon. 405 mm. 1880s
Good. Although unmarked, this is almost certainly Bendigo Pottery, and quite early we would suggest. This would have been used for ginger beer, hop beer, or possibly even spirits. Couple of chips to front top edge. Some upper edge chips and flakes as well. The rear upper body has a large curved crack which has a small flake amongst the middle part. This crack goes over about 500 mm or so, it curves up and then down and back up again, all in the upper region, none of this is visible from the front. Some minor body glaze flakes and some minor wear. Some hairlines to the top section. An impressive looking piece of pottery, this is too big for Australia Post. Grade: 6 Estimate: $100 - 150
