George Peacock's / Celebrated Jams / 2E. (Tasmania) Household Jar Stoneware, impressed. 1 pound. 100 mm without lid. 1880s
Very Good. George Peacock started his business in Hobart, expanding to Sydney in later years, he still sourced his fruit from Tasmania. The company changed name to the Australasian Jam Co (AJC). This jar has a little flake to right upper lip with a small associated upper lip hairline. Opposite upper lip has a horseshoe hairline over about 40 mm. Some discoloured spots and spots of rust. Crudely made, would have been made at one of the early Aussie potteries. This comes with a lid that has some flakes, scratches and wear. You do not see these jars very often. Grade: 7.5 Estimate: $100 - 150
