C. Dunn / G McArthur. Ginger Beer Cork Stoppered Salt glaze. Impressed. 10 oz. 188 mm. 1840s
Very Good. Very fine diagonal glaze hairline to rear lip. Some glaze wear to shoulder, small flake to rear shoulder looks like a scrape from making. 12 x 6 mm chip to left base edge. 15 x 5 mm reasonably shallow under base flake on the edge near the left front. A smaller one to the right of the front. Couple of other little flakes around base edge, some of which may be from making. Small chip to rear body towards base, this is a making mark, a type of small pottery blowout. Plenty of crude potting marks, as you would expect from a convict ginger beer. These double stamped Dunn, McArthur ginger beers are quite rare, this is possibly a unique example with the Dunn impressed into the lip - a wonderful and historically important piece of pottery. Grade: 7.3 Estimate: $5000 - 6000
